An unforgettable day in the mountains. I’ve done birdwatching before, but this tour was on another level. The drive through the Caribbean landscapes was beautiful, and once we got to Minca and up to the Mirador, the views were just breathtaking. We saw so many different bird species, and the guide really knew his stuff. The hike was peaceful, the lunch was delicious, and the whole experience felt well organized and relaxed. Highly recommended if you love nature and want to see a different side of Colombia.

Start your day early with a 5:00 am pickup from your hotel in Cartagena as we head toward the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, one of the most biodiverse regions in Colombia. During the 4-hour journey, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the Caribbean landscape and spot a variety of bird species directly from the vehicle.
Upon arriving in Santa Marta, we’ll climb to the mountain town of Minca (550 m.a.s.l.) and continue up to El Mirador (1,400 m.a.s.l.), a lookout with breathtaking views. From there, we’ll begin a guided hike through the surroundings of the El Dorado Nature Reserve, home to countless endemic and migratory bird species. This reserve is considered a hidden gem for birdwatchers from around the world.
At 2:00 pm, we’ll enjoy a local lunch in the mountains, followed by a scenic descent beginning at 3:30 pm. You’ll arrive back in Cartagena in the evening, with a heart full of nature and a camera full of incredible photos.
